This time it happened at Glasgow at Glasgow Airport in Scotland, where flights had to be suspended after a drone was spotted flying close to a plane.

Police were called to the airport on Sunday at around 1.35pm, after the drone was seen flying in the Drumchapel area of Glasgow, according to a report by STV News.

Flights were suspended for around 20 minutes, and planes looking to land at the airport were placed into a holding pattern.

Police authorities are said to have confirmed that enquiries into a drone sighting incident were ongoing.

“Police received a report of a drone seen flying near a plane in the Drumchapel area around 1.35pm on Sunday, September 11, 2022, said a Police Scotland spokesperson.

“Flights at Glasgow Airport were suspended for around 20 minutes while the area was searched.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”

A spokesman for Glasgow Airport said; “Aircraft were placed in a temporary holding pattern while Police Scotland officers investigated a reported drone sighting approximately 3.5 miles from the airport.

“Flights resumed shortly afterwards, when we confirmed it was safe to continue operations.”

Drone trespassers have been a particular problem around airports in recent times, which a similar incident being reported in Spain last week; flights had to be rerouted from Madrid Airport when a drone was spotted flying dangerously close to the airport grounds.

Airports are now investing in counter-drone technology to fight the nuisance of small drones flying illegally around the airport premises, with DroneShield, a counter-drone technology company, confirming that it entered a deal to set up operations at an airport in the USA.
