Their delivery drones are making significant inroads on the healthcare and package delivery systems all over the world now, but Wingcopter have not forgotten how they first got their leg up with those nothing-to-lose trials in Africa – first with DHL in Tanzania in 2017, before a more stable operation came in Malawi.

Now, with eyes firmly set on adding more African countries to its list of scalable market, the German drone maker has hosted two delegations from Rwanda and Cote d’Ivoire at its headquarters in Germany.

“While we are active worldwide, the African markets have always been of particular interest to us,” the company said last week.

“Building on positive experiences in Malawi, Tanzania, and Kenya, we are constantly seeking to expand our activities on the continent.

“This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming delegates from Rwanda and Côte d'Ivoire to our headquarters in Weiterstadt. We introduced Wingcopter and discussed partnership opportunities for both countries.

“Rwanda is well known to us, having (been the host country where Wingcopter) won the “Emergency Delivery Competition” at Lake Kivu in 2020 as part of the African Drone Forum.

“The delegation is currently on a study tour through Germany, organized by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (The German Agency for International Cooperation; GIZ). Participants included representatives of governmental bodies, civil aviation, and local GIZ offices that are part of the “Triangular Cooperation for Digital Innovation Made in Africa” project, which is financed by Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).”
