It is Amazon again.
This time, the e-commerce conglomerate is announcing that it will be ending it’s drone-based Prime Air service in the city of College Station in Texas, USA.
In an email to clients in the area, Amazon said it was going to wind down its Prime Air drone delivery service in the city, ending nearly three years of operations that made the Brazos Valley one of the first national testing ground for one of the company’s boldest innovations.
The email confirmed that final drone deliveries in College Station took place on August 31, 2025.
An Amazon representative verified the authenticity of the message on Sunday.
“Thank you for welcoming Prime Air into your community,” the email read in part.
“For nearly three years, College Station has been an invaluable partner in our drone delivery journey. As we continue the process of integrating drone delivery into our existing global fulfillment network and with our lease expiring later this year, the time is right for us to move on from College Station and deploy Prime Air elsewhere across the country.”
College Station was one of the first two cities in the nation chosen to launch drone deliveries, beginning in December 2022. Since then, thousands of packages have been delivered by drone in partnership with Texas A&M University and local officials.
But while many customers praised the convenience, others raised concerns about noise, disruptions, privacy, and safety.
Amazon had previously confirmed in March that it would not renew its lease on the building on Technology Parkway off Highway 6 used for drone operations, which expires in late September.
At the time, both Amazon and College Station city leaders expressed hope that the company might find a new site locally to continue the service.
That no longer appears to be the case.
The City of College Station shared a statement on Monday saying, “We were happy to have Amazon and its drone service in our community. It was a valuable learning experience for them and for the City.
“While we worked with them to find other business locations in College Station, they have chosen to move on to the next phase of developing their drone delivery service, and we wish them well.”
Instead, Amazon is expanding Prime Air to other cities, including Waco, Phoenix, and Kansas City, according to company announcements and media reports.
Earlier this month, the first wave of drone deliveries began in Waco, with Amazon expecting to scale up its fleet of 12 drones by year’s end.
